June 6th 1944, the largest invasion in military history is carried out after months of planning. But after the beaches of Juno, Gold and Omaha are captured you've got a heavy task on your hands; capture the roads inland and, with the help of paratroopers, establish supply routes for the forces pushing inland. The road ahead is hard in Company of Heroes, the ultra realistic real time strategy from the makers of Dawn of War.
Dubbed as being the best RTS game of 2006, Company of Heroes is a visceral trip through the western front of World War II. After you Download Company of Heroes the game starts with the Normandy landings through the setting up of supply routes and chasing the Axis out of Normandy it's a non stop battle of the Allies against the Axis.
From the start of Company of Heroes you'll see the (great) influence of Dawn of War (also on this site) in that you're not mining resources but capturing resource points. In this way you'll always be sending your troops back into the throws of battle to take that point and improve your army. It basically comes down to turtling kills. Not that you won't be defending; some of the best of the single player missions involve protecting a town from the might of the Axis army.
In Company of Heroes you have three types of control point to capture: Manpower, Ammunition and Fuel, each of which you will need in different amounts to build up your army. Though, of course, a foot soldier won't cost any fuel but a tank will cost hundreds.
Company of Heroes revolutionises the management of troops and vehicles: squads of foot soldiers will move as a team, setting up in places where there is more cover (even a newly created crater!!), they'll become demoralized and pinned down by heavy fire and have to retreat back to base. In the same way foot soldiers have absolutely no effect on tanks unless they have the right tools - a bazooka (panzerschreck for the Axis) or an anti tank gun. Then it gets even further: damage on the different areas of the tank creates different types and levels of damage. It's a true pleasure to play and really brings tactics into the genre: where a zone with a few (cheap) anti tanks and a couple of troops can hold of against a dozen tanks you really need to think about positioning and flanking to win the battle.
Once you add to this tactical paradise the specializations you can choose for your army you're in RTS heaven. You'll choose specializations and use them with experience points that you'll get from destroying the enemy, there are 3 major specializations to choose from for each of the armies including Parachutists and armoured company. Company of Heroes has to be one of the best looking real time strategy games out there. Visceral in its settings and sound that really pulls you into the game, the Normandy landings opening level will really let you see the slaughter that was real life. As well as the top level Essence graphics engine, Company boasts a great physics engine, letting you see the men pinwheel through the air after an explosion or the destruction of a house by a tank shell, oh yes, we forgot to say that you can get cover by occupying the houses.
Despite the single player campaign only following the Allied invasion of Normandy, it's a good length and takes you through some particularly memorable missions. But you'll really get the most out of Company of Heroes in the Skirmish mode against the computer and the online modes, in both of which you can choose to play as the Axis or the Allies. Perfectly balanced and supported by Relic's ranking service it's a great game to play online.

I own the Retail copy of this game and its the best pc game for WW2 Fan's Graphics 5/5 Sound 5/5 This is a must download , Apart from that its hard to fault. Online mode is really good aswell.

This is the best game I have ever played. The only bad thing about is that on the multiplayer there isn't that many maps to play, but still the game is simply awsome. There is nothing better than using artillary to blow a platoon of troops to pieces not to mention that everything on the map can get blown to smithereens

100% Brilliant, one of the best RTS games ever made. Graphics 10/10 Single player 10/10 Multiplayer 12123/10 I personally love the sound of the artillery coming flying in then smashing on the ground, would proof anyone's sound card worthy or not.

Can't compare this to much else, has brilliant multiplayer gameplay and the campaign is well designed too. I love the feel this game and will most likely continue to love it for months to come.

this game is all about tactics if u send your riflemen head on to a tank whitout support youl lose in 5 minutes in this game you will need artillery, elite troops, tanks, infantry, scout vehicles, there is not one type of unit that you will not use once. this game is totally awesome
