What is Surewest Games on Demand and what does it offer?
SureWest Games on Demand services are only available to SureWest high-speed Internet customers. There are two packages or collections you can choose from, Unlimited and kids package. The kids package offers approx 25 games and the Unlimited package offers 120(14th July 2008), although it is stated that they add new games monthly i would not expect the package to increase dramatically in the coming months so it may be better to spend your money elsewhere. Surewest uses the same Exent player(Games on Demand software)to supply their games to users which is the same technology Metaboli uses(another Games on Demand provider). Surewest does however offer a list of Demos you can download without registering, the list is small but i would expect it to grow for the future. The games you can expect to see with Surewest are not of the calibre of Metaboli but there are still some considerable titles like the Ghost Recon series, Age of Wonders and Rainbow Six.

How does Surewest Games on Demand work? How is it posible to download these games?
Surewest Games on Demand works by signing contract agreements with Publishers like Atari and Microsoft Games which allow them to list their games for download. Surewest achieves this by convincing publishers of it's popularity and advantages. As with all Games on Demand services the more people who subscribe to the service, the more royalties publishers are paid which allow newer and better games to become available to download. Surewest uses Exent Technologies to deliver it's games to subscribers.
How does Subscribing and downloading games with Surewest work?
To sign-up for Surewest Games on Demand you use your current Surewest account number and password. Once you have signed up you have unlimited access to all the games in the package you select. You simply download the games you wish via your Internet connection so long as you are already a Surewest customer:
- The download is at the maximum speed supported by your broadband connection.
- You don't have to wait for the download to be complete to start playing. When you've downloaded the beginning of the game (generally, the engine and the first missions are downloaded first), you can start playing (without having to install anything) the rest of the game is downloaded whilst you play…
To keep track of your bill Games on Demand will appear as a SureWest Broadband - Games line item under SureWest Internet Service.
After subscribing to the KIDS or UNLIMITED package, you can play on any computer with a broadband connection (you can download the game on as many PCs as you want, but you can’t use the same login on multiple PC’s at the same time).
You can download a game as many times as you want. Once downloaded, the game and it’s saved games are stored on your PC hard-drive (unless you delete them).
While you're playing, you are connected to Surewest's servers that confirm in real-time that you have the relevant subscription.
If you cancel, your games are left on your PC (as long as you don't delete them). If you reactivate your membership, you'll instantly be able to play all the games you've already downloaded.
Surewest is 100% legal, the games’ developers have accorded the rights to distribute their games and in turn Surewest pays them royalties.
The Verdict
Surewest's Games on Demand Service still has a long way to go to compete with big boys. Surewest really limits itself by only being available to current Surewest customers. The collection of games is dim but over time i'm sure it will improve but to what extent i don't know.
